Bear Watching Trip
Bears, so many perceptions surround them, from fearsome predator to cuddly toy. Why, and what is fact and what is fiction? On this eco-tour you will learn from experts what bears do and why we think they do it. Join in with bear researchers from the University of Calgary in the field and help them study the biggest carnivores of the Rockies. The Kananaskis area is home to grizzlies, black bears, grey wolves and also supports one of the highest densities of cougar population in North America. Spend some time studying all species of big carnivore indigenous to the Canadian Rockies.

| Activities |
This ecotour will combine horsemanship with research, field study and observation. The horses will be used where appropriate to gain access to bear and cougar habitat, but much of the study will be done on foot. Guests are discouraged from bringing cameras since the desire to get great pictures has led to many instances of bad judgment and provocation in the past. They are instead encouraged to make notes and sketches of their observations. Guides will take and provide guests with complimentary photos. |

Notes |
These animals should not be provoked or disturbed in any way. So all participants must agree to be unobtrusive and behave according to the guide’s instructions. Nonetheless, observing large predators in their natural environment poses inherent risks. Guests must sign a waiver of liability acknowledging and accepting this risk. Large predators occupy ranges of hundreds of square kilometers, so there is no guarantee of actual observation, but the knowledge you obtain will still be very rewarding and valuable to anyone with a desire to learn about Western Canada’s carnivores.
