Ranch & Horseback Adventures in the Rockies
Relax at a ranch in the Alberta foothills, north of the Ghost River, surrounded by the famed beauty of the Rocky Mountains. This working cattle ranch has a couple of hundred cows, horses and true Canadian cowboys. You can stay in rustic, comfortable log chalets or authentic Sioux tipis in an Indian Village. Horseback riding is very popular for both the beginner and the advanced rider. You may also enjoy a hay or chuckwagon ride, rafting on the Kananaskis River and hiking the trails through woodlands.
After a few days at the ranch the adventure continues in the scenic Kananaskis Country where you cover 20 to 30 kilometers per day riding from camp to camp. The Kananaskis Country is a wilderness reserve of 4,200 square kilometers stretching to the Continental Divide. Throughout most of this wilderness area horse and foot are still the only ways to see the country. The higher peaks in the area you ride through are over 10,000 feet high and snow covered most of the year. The fast flowing rivers of the region are crystal clear and cold, having never passed a single house or road.

Tour Itinerary |
Day 1:
Arrival at the Calgary Airport, transfer to the ranch.
Day 2 :
Rafting on the Kananaskis River or Adventure Ride.
Day 3:
Cowboy Day with chuckwagons and horses to Waiparous Creek and campfire meal. Day 4:
Ranch activities. Day 5:
Transfer to the Kananaskis where you choose your horse and get ready for the overnight pack trip. After a five-hour ride you arrive at the first camp at Threepoint Creek. Overnight in outfitter tents or leantos. Day 6:
Beautiful day ride through hidden passes and Along sheep trails into the valley of Big Elbow. Days 7-8:
The riders pause for a day or two to explore spectacular Box Canyon or the Cougar Gap, unencumbered by the pack horses. Day 9:
This day ride takes you away from this quiet and inspiring wilderness back into civilization. Transfer to Calgary, overnight in hotel. Day 10:
Shopping, sightseeing in Calgary, transfer to the airport. |
