High Plains Drifter
Become a real high plains drifter and see the expansive beauty of Southern Alberta as few others do. On this eight-day, traverse the arid Southern part of the province by horse. Begin the ride through the mystical badlands of where Indians have carved pictographs on rocks for untold centuries. In the shadow of the Sweetgrass Hills, camp at Writing On Stone Provincial Park. Continue the ride across the high plains where antelope play hide and seek with you in desolate coulees. Look down as you gallop. The land you cross gets less rainfall than parts of the Sahara Desert and has never been farmed. If you are observant you may periodically notice ancient teepee rings on the ground in a land that has not changed since enormous herds of bison thundered across it. Your trip ends at the Saskatchewan Border, having covered more than 150 kilometers and traversed half of the width of Alberta.

Tour Itinerary |
Day 1:
The guests meet the guide before noon, drive to Milk River, and overnight at hotel. Day 2:
You will be matched with your horse, kit loaded on pack horses, and make the ride and begin the ride to Writing On Stone Provincial Park. Days 3-4:
Ride through Milk River Valley. Day 5:
Ride through Pinhorn area, and overnight at a local hotel in Manyberries. Day 6:
Ride to Cypress Hills Provincial Park. Day 7:
Continue the ride through Cypress Hills Provincial Park and into Saskatchewan. Overnight at Fort Walsh in hotel. Day 8:
Visit Fort Walsh. Return to Calgary. |
