Day 1: Calgary – Bragg Creek Arrive in Calgary airport where a Creative Western Adventures representative will meet you. Your adventure begins as you travel independently with the freedom of your own rental car. A short drive from Calgary will take you to the charming town of Bragg Creek. Overnight at the Eagle Bed & Breakfast. Days 2-4: Kananaskis - Three Days Horseback Riding To the South of Banff, Alberta, lies the unspoiled Kananaskis Range of the Rocky Mountains. The rugged topography and open forests of the region have made horses the preferred way to get around for centuries, first by native Plain Indians and more recently by
European explorers. This trip will commence in the foothills south of Bragg Creek, at an elevation of 1,350 meters. For three days and two
nights, you will ride deeper into the mountains, guided by modern day mountain men through hidden passes and along craggy bighorn sheep trails. Two nights will be spent at camps and the third night back at the Eagle Bed and Breakfast in Bragg Creek. Day 5: Bragg Creek – Drumheller – Fossil Safari This morning, after a hearty breakfast, you will journey into a surreal world to experience and explore the natural and human history of Alberta’s Badland. Enjoy a float down the Red Deer River or enjoy a hike through private land. A half-day guided tour of the Drumheller Valley will introduce you to the fascinating geology and
paleontology of the Badlands. You will see evidence of the dramatic sedimentation and erosion that has taken over the past 70 million
years. You will learn how to read the badlands and prospect for and identify real dinosaur fossil.
Your day in the Drumheller Valley includes admission to the world-renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum, a UNESCO world heritage site that houses the world’s largest dinosaur bones. Overnight in Drumheller at a Bed & Breakfast. Day 6: Drumheller – Canmore - Caving – A Day through Alberta’s Underworld Alberta Underworld is a unique natural history experience in Alberta’s hidden wilderness. Today, you will journey into a world that is totally different from the surface sunlit world. Beyond the reach of mechanized transport these caves can only be experience by your own efforts. Most Rockies caves have not been known for long and new cave systems are still being discovered. Except for the deep oceans and outer space, caves provide one of the last places on earth
for original exploration. Here you will enter a world of rock passages etched and sculpted by water. Descending Cable Ladders, you will pass through a series of chambers ending at a beautifully decorated grotto full of stalactites and stalagmites. From here,
the passage descends under water, but you return to explore labyrinth of tubes and tunnels before returning up the ladders to the surface.
Tour includes a rappel/abseil of an 18m (60ft) drop, climb and traverse both large and narrow passages. No experience necessary, but participants should be reasonably fit. Overnight in Canmore at the Eagle Landing Bed & Breakfast. Days 7-8: Discover the Rocky Mountains Established in 1885, Banff is Canada’s oldest national park. It includes 6,641km2 of the Front Range in the Rockies. Banff has
approximately 1,500km of maintained hiking trails. Some are the most heavily used trails in the country, others are remote outings
competed by only a few hundred backpackers a year. The park features
tremendous scenic diversity, including many of the trademark Rocky Mountain views. Two days of private guided day hikes will show you some of the best vistas of the Rocky Mountains. Overnights at the Eagle Landing Bed and Breakfast in Canmore. Day 9: All Terrain Vehicle – Back Country This morning, after a hearty breakfast, continue your adventure to Golden. Upon arrival in Golden, you will join Mountain Ridge Motorsports for a half day ATV adventure fun in the backcountry. Your tour includes fuel, helmet, knowledgeable guide and a fabulous BBQ steak dinner. Overnight at the Goldenwood Lodge in Golden. Day 10: Wet ‘n’ Wild Adventures The Kicking Horse and the Lower Canyon offer an unforgettable rafting trip. It is 27km of scenery and excitement. The lower canyon is the most challenging part of the Kicking Horse and is for the advanced rafter only. Overnight at the Goldenwood Lodge in Golden. Day 11: Kayaking the Columbia River – (Flat Water Area) This morning, enjoy a relaxing and leisure day in flat water area. You will paddle through some of the most enchanting part of the Columbia River and you might have an opportunity to view many species of birds and wildlife. This afternoon, depart from the mountains and return for Calgary. Overnight in Calgary at the Coast Plaza Hotel. Day 12: Depart This morning depart from the airport in time for your flight departure home. |
