Family Glacier

Glacier National Park is an iconic family vacation experience. Inside the park’s one million acres are natural riches that will capture imaginations both young and more seasoned. In a land long sacred to the Blackfeet Indians, the Rocky Mountains rise in sheer gray walls, capped with ice and snow that funnels into waterfalls and streams far below, watering meadows filled with flowers and abundant with wildlife. Here, the alpine air is fresh, the stars bright, and the odds pretty good that you might see a wild grizzly bear from a hiking trail. It’s a real western family adventure, unplugged.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Kalispell
Start your adventure with a trip back in time! Upon arrival, your family will be met and transferred to the historic, downtown Kalispell Grand Hotel, a classic western property built in 1912.

Day 2: Gateway to Glacier / Float Trip
Your journey begins right after breakfast, when you’ll drive to Glacier National Park for an optional, easy float/raft trip (Class II–III rapids; good for all ages; tends to be calmer later in the summer) on the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. On this scenic stretch between Glacier National Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness complex, you may see black bears, deer, beavers, and bald eagles. Continue your encounter with history as you spend the next two nights at the Glacier Park Lodge, built in 1912 and 1913 out of logs cut from cedar and Douglas fir trees that were five to eight hundred years old. Set at the foot of Squaw Peak Mountain, these classic accommodations provide the perfect home base for intrepid explorers like you.

Day 3: Two Medicine Valley
Slow the pace of modern life with a scenic boat ride across Two Medicine Lake, which will take you to the breathtaking beauty of sheer, craggy cliffs and lofty mountain peaks. At Two Medicine Valley, you’ll venture into an area rich in Native American history and enjoy a moderate hike that will place you amid awe-inspiring scenery, usually reserved for the highest altitudes.

Days 4-5: Many Glacier Valley
Being able to give your children the opportunity to see animals in the wild is an unparalleled gift, and one they will always remember. Your days in Many Glacier Valley will reveal a remote wildlife area where you may observe brown and black bears feeding in the bushes of avalanche chutes, mountain goats and bighorn sheep perched precariously on the cliffs, and elk grazing in the lush meadows. Walks, hikes, boat rides, and optional horseback excursions allow us to immerse ourselves in these wonders, the very best way to learn about the world around us. On day four, stay at the Swiss chalet-style Many Glacier Hotel, with spectacular views of Swift Current Lake, rolling valleys, and towering, rocky mountains. On day five, take your family on a special night camping outing (with hot-water showers and flush toilets), experiencing the brightest stars you’ve ever seen and a closeness with nature and each other.

Day 6: Going To The Sun Road
Few roads on earth offer the spectacular scenery that you’ll see today on Going to the Sun Road. Glacier-carved valleys and mirrored lakes will be your companions as you make your way up and over the Continental Divide. But the highlight of your day could be Logan Pass, bisected by the divide, where the alpine tundra is blanketed in a carpet of vibrant wildflowers. You’ll have time to reflect and bond with your family as you sit by the fire in front of the massive stone fireplace of the historic Lake McDonald Lodge.

Day 7: Kalispell / Home
This morning, get an early start back to Kalispell for your afternoon flights home.
