Overview
Fifteen years ago, Wild Planet Adventures began as a small company with a passion for nature travel and its power to transform lives. Today their wildlife eco-tours are widely recognized as the ultimate adventures for wildlife enthusiasts.
What Makes Wild Planet Adventures Different? Every aspect of the Ultimate Wildlife eco-tours is designed to increase the odds of wildlife sightings, with truly “off the beaten path” destinations, expert naturalist guides (even biologists in some places) and special nocturnal wildlife activities.
- Value-Packed Itineraries - Emphasizing bird and wildlife viewing in remote locations.
- Low Environmental Impact - Wild Planet takes you beyond the well-traveled routes.
- Educational - Learn wildlife viewing secrets, natural history, habitat, and more.
- Small Groups (6-10 Average) - For a more personal connection with expert naturalist guides.
- Flexible Activities - Daily options to accommodate different skill levels and interests.
- Safari-Style Paddling - Choose from a naturalist-guided raft, inflatable kayak or hard-shell kayak during river days, when possible. More eyes spread out on the river increases your chances of encountering wildlife.
- Unique Rainforest Lodges and Tropical Tree Houses - Selected for optimal bird and wildlife viewing opportunities.
The Wild Planet Philosophy For 15 years, they have shared many intimate encounters with wildlife that have left them, and their guests, breathless with wonder. These experiences remain with them all through their lives to inspire, exhilarate and enlighten. They are a constant reminder that life is precious. Wild Planet offers a range of tours for individual and group travel, including their signature “Ultimate Wildlife” eco-tour for each country. These specially designed itineraries are full of “once-in-a-lifetime” wildlife encounters, rich with meaning and wonder. A single moment can leave you profoundly and forever changed: - Witness an alpha-male monkey kissing a newborn baby on the forehead.
- Cuddle a three-toed sloth in your arms.
- Wander the cloud forest in search of the Resplendent Quetzal.
- Float silently down the headwaters of the Amazon River past an elusive jaguar.
- Dance underwater with playful Galapagos sea lions and penguins.
“We had been to Costa Rica before, but this time the amount and diversity of wildlife we saw was thrilling! The cuisine was great, the accommodations extraordinary, and Wild Planet and its support staff looked after our every need. We highly recommend Wild Planet Adventures!” Tom & Sandra Peters, Chicago, IL
Accommodations Wild Planet Adventures specializes in small, one-of-a-kind rainforest lodges, many of which have been featured on the Discovery Channel and top travel magazines. They include exciting tropical tree houses, biological stations, and wildlife refuges that offer breathtaking accommodations and outstanding wildlife viewing opportunities.
Guides Your guide is your gateway to the world of the rainforest; you’ll laugh; you’ll cry; and you’ll learn things. Wild Planet’s guides are naturalists, biologists, or leaders in their field, such as the legendary master guide Koky Porras, who has helped train many of Monteverde’s world-class guides.
Wildlife Specialists In 2004, Wild Planet saw highly elusive animals such as jaguar, jaguarundi, margay, ocelot, tapir or tyra on seven of their last ten Costa Rica “Ultimate Wildlife” departures. They’ve seen the resplendent quetzal on nearly every Costa Rica Ultimate Wildlife trip they’ve ever run. And you will see more monkeys and sloth by your second day there with Wild Planet than most travelers do in a week. Do you love primates? Then join the Peru Ultimate Wildlife ecotour where you can see 13 species in the most biodiverse area of the Amazon. Whatever destination you choose, you will find a wide variety of activities all designed to increase the odds of seeing more wildlife, especially rare and endangered species. Wild Planet Adventures knows the best places and ways to see wildlife.
Value Wild Planet’s itineraries have been the centerpiece of the company since they began in 1991. Wild Planet urges you to compare their itineraries to any other company. You will quickly notice that each Wild Planet adventure offers extraordinary value that is uncommon in conventional tours. For example, their 14-day Costa Rica Ultimate Wildlife ecotour features: - Over seven distinct destinations (not counting arrival/departure in San Jose).
- Over eight national parks and wildlife preserves.
- Over 13 paid activity admissions – twice that of most tours!
- No pre-packaged commercial tours run by lodges.
- No “free-days” requiring additional activities at extra cost (but enough free time to enjoy your vacation at a relaxed pace).
- Plus Wild Planet’s signature service, naturalist guides and award-winning lodges and all meals.
